You Stole My Name Board Book

I bought the board book at a conference from the author/illustrator for my nieces. It was smaller to travel with, but frankly, I’m going to order the large ones for myself. The artwork is stunning! The writing is also a breath of fresh air. Fun to read, meter and rhyme relevant, not forced and very well done. Highly recommend! Also, the author couldn’t be a nicer human. That counts too!

"You Stole My Name" is a recent gem I stumbled upon this year, and let me tell you, it's become a treasured addition to our family's bookshelf. This book does something pretty cool - it pairs up animals with similar names, making it a fun and educational read that can hook a variety of young readers. Now, the real magic here is in the illustrations. McGregor's artwork is seriously impressive, and those lifelike depictions of animals are a feast for the eyes.One thing I love about this book is how it can grab the attention of a wide age range. It's perfect for preschoolers, but even older kids can get into it, thanks to the fantastic artwork and the chance to discover some not-so-famous animals. My eight-year-old had a blast flipping through the pages and even wanted to dive deeper into learning about some of the featured critters.What's neat is how this book mixes up some less-known animals with the more popular ones, making learning a blast. And here's the kicker – it's longer than you might expect for a kids' book. We usually read it in chunks, talking about the incredible art and animals on each page. But I have to say, my wife was not too thrilled when I hit pause during one reading session; she wanted to keep going!So, if there's a young animal lover in your life, "You Stole My Name" is a must-have. It's not just cute; it's a gateway to a world of animals that'll spark curiosity and wonder in readers of all ages.

This is a very cute book about animals with similar names.It brings up some niche animals with popular ones which bring some fun learning value.The book is actually longer then I thought for this type of thing I normally do half of the book at a time going slow and talking to my daughter about the art and animals on each page.I like that with the artwork and the type of story it stays interesting for a wide range of ages.My wife actually complained when I stopped reading it out loud and did not finish it in one sitting haha.Good purchase.

This is a lovely book.

The idea of the book is fun but I found the book lacking. I wanted to know why the animals got their names! Some of them are obvious because they look similar (ex: the tiger fish) but others are not obvious (ex:dog fish who doesn’t look like a dog but hunts in packs like dogs do, or the cow bird that doesn’t look like a cow but follows herds of livestock to find food). Some of the artwork was also lacking. Better pictures of a parrot fish can be found online to explain that a parrot fish has fused teeth that resemble a parrots beak, or the spider monkey page only shows the monkeys face when it is the arms, legs and tail that resemble the spider. I just wanted a better explanation in the book as to WHY the animal had the name that it had! And if it is for looks, then make the pictures look like they should! All of this information was able to be found by a simple google search. I was planning to use this book to talk to my preschoolers about names at the beginning of the school year, but I think it misses the mark.

Wow. The illustrations are vivid and realistic. Such a fun and clever book. It is a great introduction to learning about features and similarities between very different living things. This book not only appeals to children, but stimulates adults to think and be curious about our world. Love it!

The illustrations are worth the price of the book, and each illustration is accompanied by a fun poem. It is a perfect read aloud book for parents and grandparents. You will giggle together as your child discovers the word play in the drawings. Just wonderful fun to share together!

I opened my mailbox to a very fun surprise last week! Dennis McGregor sent me a beautiful copy of his book, You Stole My Name!You Stole My Name was punished just this year and it was a new title to me. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to add this to our family's library.This book features brief poems about pairings of animals who share a name. My favorite aspect of the book is the illustrations - they are absolutely beautiful and so realistic. McGregor is a very talented artist!I think kids of all ages would enjoy this book. It is best suited to the preschool age group, but I think even older children will be enraptured by the artwork and this is a great book to use as an introduction to some lesser-known species to use as a springboard for deeper research. My eight year old really enjoyed paging through it and found a few animals about which she'd like to learn more.If you have a young animal lover in your life, this book would be a great one to add to your collection!
